Tom’s Tips – Kauai Bike Tour

Ok. So you’ve probably already noticed, there is only one bike ride on Kauai. Does that in any way diminish the excitement, quality or sheer fun involved with this activity? Absolutely not. If anything it just makes the choice to take this one a bit easier. You are not going to want to miss the Waimea Canyon in your explorations of Kauai. The Grand Canyon of the Pacific is awesome to see and it makes it just that much more fun to visit on a bike. What makes it even more fun is that you are driven up to the top to see the beautiful sights of the canyon from above but then you are treated to a 12 mile no-peddling downhill extravaganza of a ride to the ocean. Nothing brings out the ‘kid’ in you more than a bike ride downhill when you don’t have to peddle back up again. And, you actually can get going pretty swiftly. A bit of adrenaline and some crisp mountain air on a delightful Kauai morning is even more invigorating than a fresh Kona coffee latte. You will also get some great views of Niihau from elevation. It is much more impressive to view it from a distance above sea level than from the shoreline. This is a fun trip.
