Poipu Beach is Actually Two Beaches
Poipu Beach is actually two beaches in one that are somewhat separated by a sandbar which is often host to one or more of its more esteemed visitors in the form of the Hawaiian Monk Seals who can occasionally be seen lounging in the sun on the sand. Each beach is somewhat different in the sense that one side is calmer and is one of the few beaches on the island that is generally suitable for young children to enjoy under proper supervision, and the other side is a bit more adventurous in the sense that it provides a bit better place for snorkeling. A tremendous asset to this beach is the fact that it has a lifeguard tower which provides an extra layer of safety for those enjoying the ocean.
Poipu Beach has Great Amenities
On the far eastern portion of the beach you can find the Poipu Beach Park which will provide visitors with clean bathrooms, showers and picnic tables. These amenities make it a very family friendly beach including of course the fact that it has a lifeguard tower. This is often a great area to come with children and generally they will be able to meet others to play with as well. If there is anything that some people may consider a downside to the beach experience at Poipu it would be that it is so good that it can become extremely crowed during the busy seasons and even on the weekends at regular times. If you enjoy the company of others, this will be your beach.
Ocean Caution
Be advised that all beaches and ocean locations in Hawaii can be dangerous including this one. Be completely aware of the ocean conditions prior to entering any Hawaiian waters. Be certain that a lifeguard is on duty at this location and be certain to ask him where the best place for you to swim at this beach will be on the day you are there based upon the current ocean and wind conditions. Also, all shorelines and beaches in Hawaii, including this one, can be frequented by sharks, jellyfish and other sea creatures which can provide potential harm to people entering the water.
