We had an AMAZING time with Maui Snorkeling on Lani Kai II! The crew made the trip fun & got us close to several whales on the way to & from snorkeling. They got us to the locations before the big boats came in & overwhelmed the area. Our group was only 17 people including our family which was great vs. large boats of 100+ people. We were able to chat with the crew & had all our questions answered. The pictures from the photographer were amazing memories so definitely take advantage of that. We held a pencil sea urchin, saw turtles, whales, eel & all kinds of fish. Plus the landscape is awesome. It was our kids first time & they couldn’t stop talking about it! Highly recommended this small crew for your trip!
We chose the morning tour to the crater and turtle town. The whales were very active every time we were under way from place to place. Ship captain and crew were so enjoyable to chat with and help us out.there was always a crew member in the water for safety and to help or encourage everybody.Flawless tour and they had a vegetarian lunch for my wife that she liked. This is a rare find. I recommend this co and want to go back out with them again. Thank you to all the crew.

No contest, pick these guys. We had the most amazing experience. Our original trip got canceled due to weather, but we were already out on the boat, so Captan Paul took the long way back and gave us some time to whale watch and a free reschedule. Second try was perfect! We had Captain Jamie that time and the boat ride out to the crater was smooth and relaxing as the sun came up. Emily and Sydney helped us on board and remembered us from our first try. We both needed prescription goggles, and they had exactly what we needed to ensure we got the same experience as everyone else. Breakfast and lunch were great, don't skip out on the coffee, it's delicious. The snorkeling spots were both so beautiful and we saw so many cool things. We bought the professional photographer's photos and I can't wait to print them up. It was the perfect day out and ending to our vacation. Thanks guys!

This review has nothing to do with seeing whales or not - in fact we saw plenty, and some even quite close to the boat. The crew and guide did a fine job as well. Our issue was with how expensive this tour was - supposedly because it's "one of the best" - and yet the boat was huge, crowded, and made for a much worse whale watching experience compared to an earlier excursion we did with a different company on a much smaller boat. The best way I can describe it is that we had an economy experience but paid for a business class ticket.If this was the budget option, where you can save money in exchange for being packed in and only able to see off one side of the boat, then perhaps it would be worth it for folks seeking that option. Instead this was significantly more expensive than our other whale watching experience which came on a smaller boat with 360 views of the water from every seat! I'd recommend booking with a different company that prioritizes guest experience over fitting as many people onto a boat as possible.
We chose the 9 am whale watching tour on a Wednesday. It was a lovely day with excellent whale watching. January/February is the perfect time to watch whales in this area. The protected ocean between Maui, Lanai, and two other islands is perfect for whale babies to be born and raised in relatively calm pacific waters. PacWhale promised lots of whales and they delivered. Large ones, babies and moms! The Naturalist was excellent in taking and answering questions. Worth every penny! No need to worry about sea sickness in this part of the Pacific. Tranquil seas with only small waves. Would do it again!

We saw lots of whales and learned lots of whale facts. They taught us about conservation and the laws and best practices regarding whale watching. When we came upon a group of whales, they lowered a microphone into the water so that we could listen to them.Only con, in my opinion, was that the expert on the boat was talking the entire two hours and it was quite loud. I wish I had brought earplugs to get a break from the noise.
First visit to this island and decided to go out with Pacific Whale Foundation. Disappointing experience. We went with friends who have a membership which gets you priority boarding. They "forgot" to board us first. We boarded last. Couldn't understand the narration on the scratchy speakers in the back of the boat.I wondered upfront where I was able to peek over other people's heads to see the ocean. There, I heard juvenile jokes about mating whales and menopausal whales - I decided the back was a better place for me after all. Perhaps I've been spoiled on my previous whale watches where I've been offered a drink and offered by a crew member to take photos of my group. No personal service like that was offered with the Pacific Whale Foundation. The ads for this company gave me the sense that they went above and beyond to provide a great experience for a great cause. In my case it looked like too few employees for too many passengers, expensive up-charges, chip bags flying around the deck, and weird off-color jokes from the young man holding a microphone. Very few whales, and nothing spectacular, nothing out of the ordinary as far as information/education about the ecosystem and the animals within it.A few days later we booked with Maui Ocean Adventures go check out my review there!

Did an afternoon charter with my family on January 2025. We had divers, snorkelers, and a couple that just wanted to stay on the boat. Captain Steve and divers Joe and Ernie took such great care of us! They treated the kids so well we felt like royalty! The afternoon on the boat was the highlight of our entire trip to Maui. We dove the Mala Pier and it was my favorite dive EVER!We also did some whale watching and saw many groups of whales, including about 7 different complete breaches with the whales jumping nearly completely out of the water. What a great, comfortable boat and an even better crew! Will be booking with them again when we are back in Maui!!

We had a great time with the team from Makena. Due to the recent storms, the water was rough and murky so our 3-hour snorkel trip turned into a short snorkel and whale watching adventure. We were sad to skip turtle town, but we understand and appreciate the safety concerns. I would recommend Makena to my friends and family.
We took a Whale Watching Cruise with this charter. The captain and his 2 helpers were very engaging and fun. You received two adult drinks and we saw many whales along the surface of the ocean, even though there had been a storm the day prior. Well priced as well.

We loved the boat and the crew. The sailing was amazing! Our boat was quick in light wind and the crew kept the cruise quick and comfortable as we kept an eye out for whales.
Nicolas and his crew provided a safe, fun, easy going experience. We cruised, snorkeled twice, ate light breakfast and full lunch with eager bar tenders when we all finished in the water. We were a party of six adults and the boat had lots of room for us and other guests. Apparently the captain is a Whale whisperer as every few minutes another close view of whales was provided.
We did the "Turtle Reef Breakfast Snorkel & Sail" with Sail Maui and it was PHENOMENAL! I would highly recommend!!! For breakfast they had fresh fruit and delicious breakfast sandwiches (Vegetarian options available when booking). They took us out to a great spot with lots of turtles. Only one other snorkel boat was there, unlike some spots where we saw 4 or 5 boats and tons of people. The crew was friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. This was a GREAT EXPERIANCE and cost less then a lot of the other companies offering similar experiences.
My girlfriend and I booked a sunset sail out the Lahaina harbor. First off the crew Kevin and Justin were amazing. Very friendly and accommodating. It was a smooth ride and very relaxing. It was almost the end of our trip to Maui and was a great way to finish it off. We would recommend Sail Maui anytime. The boat Paragon was well maintained and in top shape. The views were amazing and is definitely worth going.
We went on a sunset cruise last night and it was by far the best excursion we have done in Maui yet. The boat was nice, staff was great and attentive. Our drinks were never empty. We saw whales and even a mother and baby. It was a beautiful night and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! Highly recommend doing this at least once during your Maui trip!
PERFECT trip with Captain Chase & his phenomenal crew: Shannon, Jamie & (I think) Stephanie!!These guys all genuinely cared SO much about giving us the best time!Despite unfavorable conditions at their normal snorkeling spots, they found a perfect location for us to get in the water. Wife and I spotted loads of fish & coral - and even swam with a sea turtle! 🐢Even though this wasn’t a whale watching trip, the captain told us all to be on the lookout and went out of his way to give us the best views! One whale even came up to play with us (Up Close!) for several minutes!The food was better than expected & while I don’t drink, all the guests seemed to be into the drinks available at the open bar. (My wife said the wine was good & my Diet Coke was never empty!)If you want a crew that cares about you & your experience (Not just your money) — you want Sail Maui & Captain Chase!!!
