The staff was so friendly and supportive, but what really stood out was how knowledgeable they were. They didn’t just show us whales; they took the time to educate us about the humpbacks' lives and their environment. We genuinely learned so much while having a blast on the water.
They took great care of everyone on board and made sure the trip was both fun and meaningful. If you’re in Maui, this is a must-do!
All staff were very friendly and willing to help anyone, regardless of snorkelling ability, and also encouraged people who were quite frightened to have a go.
Our captain, Emily, was very helpful and thoughtful, keeping everyone informed and updating us on what was going on and how long we had in the water.
Breakfast was great. When we arrived, we had banana 🍌 bread, fruit, and croissants 🥐.
Plenty of coffee and drinks on board.
Lunch consisted of grilled chicken, beef, and veggie burgers, where you make your own burger with lettuce, tomato, and onion. They also had macaroni salad and coleslaw with edamame beans, plenty of different sauces and condiments to make your meal just the way you want.
We were lucky to see two whales even though we were told it was early in the season to be seeing them. Due to high winds, they weren't able to take the boat as far away from shore as they usually do, so some there was some impact from the lights at shore on the star gazing experience.
We absolutely loved Harriet's narration! Members of our group ended up laying on our backs at the bow and could really take in what she was sharing. It was such a unique experience and getting to learn from someone like her was an amazing opportunity.
The food was a nice treat but not the reason to go on this cruise.
We saw 3 turtles, 2 sharks, hundreds of beautiful fish and a whale! BYOB on board
BOAT:
It seemed a little old but up-kept. 2-levels of indoor and outdoor seating and easily accessible. The stairs leading from the bottom to upper deck wasn't steep at all. The bow section has a cool stadium-style bench seating of 3 rows which makes great use of space and gives passengers a great view. One restroom started to smell pretty bad by the end of our 2-hour voyage. Not sure if it was the part of a passenger or the boat's system.
STAFF:
Everyone was friendly and professional. However, they should have a naturalist on-board to teach & inform guests of the whales. Instead there was a lot of dead silence and motoring.
OVERALL:
Whale watches are such a hit & miss. I'd suggest listening to the weather forecast a few days ahead, then buy your tickets for a morning sail which generally is calmer than the afternoon.
The food was great too—breakfast included croissants, pineapple, banana bread, and orange slices, and lunch was a tasty combo of burgers, salad, and refreshing drinks. Everything was fresh and well-organized.
The snorkeling experience was unforgettable—clear water, beautiful fish, and such a fun time for everyone. They even had a lily pad for kids, which was a huge hit with our 3-year-old! It was perfect for little ones who didn’t want to jump fully into the water but still wanted to play safely. Life jackets and floating supports were also provided, making it stress-free for families.
Overall, this trip was totally worth it—great value, great crew, and an incredible experience. I’d highly recommend it to all families visiting Maui! 🌺🚤🐠

The dive masters are extremely knowledgeable, and you can truly tell they love what they do. Dave, in particular, makes the dive briefings fun and comical, which really adds to the experience.
They also provide snacks, beverages, and lunch, which is always appreciated. As always, we had a fantastic experience and will definitely dive with them again when we return to Maui.
Without a doubt, I will look to come back to their crew and dive more… it was a great experience!!!
Our captain was Don and my DM was Dave. Dave did a great job giving dive briefings and keeping us safe underwater and at the surface. He also went above and beyond helping me set up my kit to make sure it was in good shape for both dives.
Both dives were drift dives / live drops, which I was a little surprised by since I’m used to having a mooring line, but the crew handled everything well and safety was emphasized. My group had 4 divers and I know it can be a gamble but we all happened to align pretty perfectly on air consumption and ability.
I found Maui Diamond off a Reddit thread and I’m happy I booked with them. I would definitely come back for future trips!
If ever back, we’d definitely go with them again

Check in was easy and painless- snorkeling was beyond words beautiful and we found 6/7 whales that were having a great time around our boat for about an hour on the way back, hands down the most incredible experience ever.
Matt and Sarah were very accommodating to all ages in our tour.
Sarah was also very helpful and knowledgeable.
Snorkeling equipment and wetsuits were clean and in excellent condition.

The morning started strong with warm breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon rolls, which instantly won my kids over and set the tone for the day. The snorkeling itself was perfect for all levels. It was the ideal setup for a mixed-ability group.
The atmosphere on board was relaxed, fun, and very family-friendly. And the ride back? Cold beers and Mai Tais for the adults—such a nice touch after a few hours on the water. Truly the perfect way to spend the first half of the day. We pulled back into port right at 12:30, giving us the whole afternoon to enjoy the rest of Maui.
Could not recommend Sail Maui more. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip!
10/10 highly recommend!!
