There Is No Need To Be Concerned About Ocean Temperature Here In Hawaii!

Aug 9, 2018 | General Information

Water temperature is a constant concern for people coming to visit Hawaii. This is one of the most asked questions we receive from Hawaii visitors prior to their arrival. Luckily we are fortunate here in Hawaii to have great water temperature the entire year long. Yes as you may have surmised the water temperature does go down in the winter months, but not as much as you might expect. Being located in such a temperate area of the planet we find that most things here regarding temperature, climate, ocean conditions and other aspects of things having to do with the meteorological conditions are actually very stable.

In the case of the water temperature all of the islands follow the same basic temperature scale running the gamut between perhaps just under 76 degrees in the winter to perhaps 81 or 82 degrees in the summer. If you are looking for a ‘bathtub’ type water temperature in the high eighties you might prefer a location somewhat closer to the equator or even Florida in the summertime might provide you with temperatures such as those. In places like Florida however there will be a severe decline in the water temperature in the winter months and even places we associate with warm water and beautiful ocean like southern California have no comparison to the comfortable water conditions that exist here in Hawaii on a yearly basis. Keep in mind that the average water temperature here in Hawaii will seldom adjust more than 6 degrees from summer to winter and the fact that the air temperature keeps a close trajectory to the water temperature means that you will be less affected by any sudden changes in temps between the air and the water which is the main reason why people, at least initially, think that a body of water is cold.
