The Jewel of Hana Beaches. Hamoa Beach
Safety is an important issue at the beach as it is for all beaches in Hana. The ocean can be rough here and there can be undertow and rip-currents. These do not generally pose a problem and the waters of the beach are delightful to enjoy but is a factor that needs to be addressed before you enter. You simply need to make sure that someone you trust with local knowledge of the conditions can assure you that beach entry is safe and also give you an idea of which portions of the beach will be best for you to enjoy on that particular day and each day can be different.
Surf at Hamoa Beach
The beach itself is a beautiful crescent shape filled with black sand. The sand at Hamoa is actually more of a gray sand overall as it is likely a mixture of both ground lava rock and coral. On most days there is plenty of room to layout and enjoy the sun and it is a delight to simply be in such an environment surrounded by TUI Villas tropical beauty in all directions.
Entry to the beach is down a rock staircase from Haneo’o Road which is just off the Hana Hwy. Restrooms are available to the general public although some of the lounge chairs found there are reserved for guests at the hotel. The sand is the best spot to be anyway and that is available for anyone’s enjoyment.
Ocean Caution
Please be advised that all beaches and ocean locations in Hawaii can be potentially dangerous including this location. Be completely aware of the ocean conditions prior to entering the water and of course, never turn your back on the ocean when you are on the shoreline. It should also be noted that all shorelines and beaches in Hawaii, including this one, can be frequented by sharks, jellyfish and other sea creatures which can provide potential harm to people entering the water.
