Mai’Poin’a ‘oe Ia’u Beach Park is located at the 5 mile marker in North Kihei. The beach stretches perhaps a mile from sands-end at its southern boundary to Sugar Beach whose boundary is the old sugar pier at the beginning of North Kihei. This is typically a fairly calm beach in terms of waves and usually only breaks big with large south swells. Mornings here are usually flat and good for swimming and walking but the afternoons can be extremely windy and thus Mai’Poin’a can be fantastic as a place to wind surf.

Calm Water in early morning at Mai
Mai’Poin ‘oe la’u Beach is a narrow beach that runs right along South Kihei Rd so it provides easy access via automobile. Although there is a parking area at the main pavilion of the beach these are often quickly taken when the park is busy but cars can easily park all along the road as well and if you’re carrying windsurf equipment you will appreciate this easy access. On days when the wind is blowing strong this beach, which tends to be very un-crowded, can be absolutely jammed and the site of colorful windsurf sails dotting the horizon, zig-zag-ing in every direction is a sight to behold.

Clean Pavilion and Great Amenities
Amenities to be found at Mai’Poin’a ‘oe Ia’u Beach Park are as mentioned above, plenty of parking, restroom facilities and showers at the beautiful pavilion, picnic tables and some barbecue stations and grass areas along the narrow strip between the beach and the road. There is often plenty of shade. There is no life guard tower at this site.
