Today we went horseback riding with Makena Stables. We started out by making our way down the coastline of La Perouse Bay. Our trail took us through the forest and down to the beach, we then continued up the hill to the location of the most recent volcanic eruption on Maui, far on the hill above La Perouse Bay. Here we ate lunch and took in the magnificent 360 degree view of the mountain and the surrounding islands of Molokini, Kahoolawe, Lanai and the Big Island. While we did get to trot the horses for a few sections of the ride the pace was very relaxed overall and we had plenty of time to take in the scenery. Our guide for the day was very knowledgeable about the history of the ranch as well as the island and she shared many facts and stories with us throughout the excursion.
