The Big Island of Hawaii is a fantastic destination for an active family. With a wide range of climates and many forms of terrain there are a lot of very different activities to choose from. Most visitors stay on the Kona side of the island and that is an ideal jumping off point for some ocean fun. Very young children will enjoy a relaxing cruise on a glass bottom boat while older children can learn to snorkel in waters that are teeming with sea life. A night time manta ray snorkel is a Big Island exclusive and a dolphin snorkel is another favorite option.
For evening entertainment children will enjoy a traditional Hawaiian luau. There are luaus held in both the Kona and Waikoloa areas on the Big Island.
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tops the list of attractions on the island. Drive Chain of Craters Road, take a short hike, speak with park rangers about conditions and get local insights. You can even check out the junior ranger programs at the park.
