Most of the private charters we put together are boat charters and there are a few things that would be helpful for you to know regarding these arrangements. First and foremost, these boats come in different sizes and have different levels of passengers they are allowed to take according to their Coast Guard classification. Most of the small boats will have a passenger maximum of only 6 passengers. They can’t take one more person than that. The next gradation up is usually about 49 passengers. This would mean that if you had a party of 10 people, in order to arrange for a private charter we would have to put you on a boat that is in all likelihood larger than you would need and much more costly. There are some exceptions with regard to the allowable capacities but please understand that this is the type of challenge we need to try to work out with groups that are in the larger than 6 but smaller than 49 category. For larger groups we can do all sorts of things to make a charter work. Just recently we chartered three large boats all at the same time to handle a group of 300 on a snorkeling excursion in the same morning. We can usually put some good options on the table for you if you give us the time to work it out.

Please give us plenty of time to arrange for your private charters. This can be a frustrating experience for both of us if we don’t have the time to set it up. I’ve been surprised over the course of years when people call us a day or two before a desired private charter and hope we can put it together. Sometimes we can but it is more luck than skill at that point.
