Its amazing how many Maui surf lessons are offered on the island, and they are often quite full. It’s shocking sometimes to drive by the ‘Cove’ off Kihei Road in South Maui and see all the dozens of beginner Maui surf school participants that are all using the same surf breaks. It seems like there are always enough waves to go around and it is great that we have specific surf breaks on the island that are generally always firing and yet are fairly small yet consistent. These types of waves are perfect for Maui surf lessons. We also have similar waves near the break wall in Lahaina, in Kaanapali, in Olowalu and other locations in Kihei.
Your usual class size for Maui surf lessons may be perhaps 6 or 8 students with usually 2 instructors. These will give you the basics to get you rolling but the very best way to go is to take a private lesson or semi-private lesson for just a couple of students. Here you will get the special attention necessary to learn the sport easily. Given that this may be your first surf lesson, or the first Maui surf lessons of your children, it is probably best to have that special added attention of a private instructor to drill home the basic techniques and to build confidence as you learn to surf. You’ll never ever have another first surf lesson again, so you might as well make it a good one.
