Arriving at the Marriott Waikoloa Resort we made our way through the lobby we got our first glimpse of what was going to be our view for the night. The luau grounds look out over the ocean with a beautiful grove of palm trees that line the shore. I was pleased when the hostess seated us at a table that was near the stage, but on the edge of everything which gave us a more unobstructed view of the sunset then we wouldve had if we were directly in front of the stage. There was a group of Canadians at our table as well as a group from Illinois. They were all very friendly people and the couple from Illinois kept us very entertained, telling us about the adventures that they had been having on the island so far.
After a couple of minutes our waitress came by and invited us up to the buffet. When we got to the buffet I was pleased to find that all of my favorite luau dishes were plentifully available. Kalua Pork, Poi, Chicken Long Rice, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Kolbe Strip Steaks, a huge salad bar and much, much more. On the way back from the buffet I made my way by the bar. They had a huge assortment of blended tropical drinks, beer and mixed drinks available.
The bartender was a very pleasant fellow who told me to be sure to come back for another when I was done with that one, because the evenings bar tab is included with admission to the luau. I smiled and thanked him for the tip as I stuffed a couple of $$ into his tip jar. A few minutes after I got back to the table the evenings hula show started. I was impressed at the variety of the different dances that they performed.
They had at least one act from almost every pacific island group that I can think of off the top of my head. However, judging by the amount of cheers and applause that happened during the fire dancing…..I think its safe to say that it was the evenings favorite. We really had a great time.
